As the ‘affordable’ videographer in Nottingham, I get asked a lot of questions related to my filmmaking process, timescales, cost and flexibility. It’s natural when you are competing with the agencies!

Where do you offer video services?

I am based in Nottinghamshire, but I am constantly driving around the UK filming video projects! From product shoots in my own house to golf adverts in Scotland and environmental films in Wales, I am well equipped to capture footage anywhere.

A good chunk of my work is filmed in the East Midlands (Nottingham, Derby and Leicester), but I get often asked to travel down south to London, up north near Manchester and even abroad. The biggest questions are usually about what video you’d like me to create, rather than if I can get there. The answer is usually yes!

What camera do you use?

I mostly use a Panasonic Lumix S5II that shoots 6K opengate footage. This means I can record a ‘near-square’ frame that helps me repurpose any landscape video to vertical for socials.

My rig is modifiable and I often shoot with multiple lenses, handheld/over the shoulder/tripod and can switch styles easily.

I’m also well versed when it comes to other camera brands, able to hire and operate almost anything. That’s film school for you!

How much does a video cost?

Video projects can range from about £450 to £2,500.

As a freelance videographer, I have no expensive fees/rates to pay for sales teams and secretaries! That’s one of the great benefits of working with a freelancer rather than a marketing agency or production company (we also work more flexible hours too!). I charge day rates for filming and editing, so it just depends on the scale of your project!

How long does it take to edit a video?

Between one day and five days (usually 1-2).

It depends on the project! A two minute ‘piece to camera’ testimonial is very different to a two minute advert with a voiceover and animation.

Can you give me the raw footage?

No problem! I’m happy to transfer all raw footage on the day if you have your own storage available.

I am sometimes asked to provide footage online and this not a problem. This can usually take a few days as I can easily shoot 100s of gigabytes when filming 6K – I live in Nottinghamshire (my internet isn’t rapid fast!).
