The fun way to ‘spice up’ their website and boost business.
| Client | Container Self Store – My Own Space, Nottingham |
| Brief | “We have a video on our website homepage, but it’s quite old! We need a new one that’s less corporate and showcases our new facilities.” |
| Twist | Utilizing their “rubber duck obsession” and friendly staff members to create a video that conveys an approachable atmosphere, through comedic B-roll and a laid-back sounding voiceover. |
| Result | Over 1,000 locals have watched this video right until the end – in the first year of embedding onto the website. It also loops silently in their reception area on a TV with subtitles to read – a great idea of theirs! |

Rubber Ducks
Every client deserves a unique video.
Container Self Store’s spaces in Nottingham & Northampton aren’t just hirable container units. I had to make sure that in the video, we showcased their unique business pods, lockers for students and small ‘yellow door’ branded units for families and individuals.
The funky duck niche was essential…
The tick box basics are covered in the video immediately. 24/7 security, easy access, lots of sizes etc.. This means we can move on quicker to the selling points that make the business unique.
A local Nottinghamshire based business like CSS needs a video that tells locals that they aren’t like the the big chain solutions in the county. The video cast are who you meet (and they’re super friendly), they offer all sorts of fun solutions, custom services and their facility is fun to explore.
A fun video was the only option for a company that loves rubber ducks. It just makes sense!
Planning
For this video, the only essential planning needed is scriptwriting. I created this script using a tick box “must mention” list from the client, website content and flyers.
The client just needed to make sure they had the right staff members working on the shoot days to be able to showcase all their services.
They guaranteed the presence of a forklift operator, receptionist, motorcycle driver and any staff that were up for my funny ideas!
Filming
The project took two days to film and we were left with lots of extra footage that was repurposed for social media content.
Essential B-roll of everything mentioned on the script was the first task to tick off. Then we spent the rest of the time creating funny shot ideas, some of which the staff had fun coming up with!
Without the creative freedom, the video would have felt corporate and less memorable.
Editing
A stage that no one except myself needs to worry about.. Here’s the editing process:
– Cut voiceover script and add essential & relevant clips to specific lines.
– Create intro & outro segments.
– Narrow down the best of the remaining B-roll and fill in the gaps.
– Colour grade & sound mix.
– Send & ask for client feedback!
