“Ed is a conscientious and incredibly creative film maker. When I initially approached him about working on some music videos he was incredibly receptive to my (sometimes crazy) ideas, but was fantastic and very quick at coming up with practical solutions to help realising my vision. I felt I got all of Ed’s focus on shoot days, we kept filming until we got what we both wanted. His communication was fantastic and the speed of his delivery was fast too. Planning
Other than the locations Ollie had in mind, we wanted to plan absolutely nothing to keep the meta music video BTS concept real. A lot of our on-set planning is visible in the edit.
Filming
Alongside my main camera rig, I brought along a little GoPro camera and wore it on my head for extra BTS shots that you see in the video – capturing some funny real moments before, after and even during the final shots.
Editing
This was one of the most enjoyable edits I’ve ever done. Ollie wanted to come to my editing office and watch the magic happen. We loved watching all the clips back.
On a shoestring budget, great videos are still possible!
Not the first time creating
a music video for Ollie…
Some of my first ever professional video projects were for Ollie’s band ‘The Half Eight’. A 16 year old Ed shot some one-shot live videos for them on a few spontaneous occasions.
In 2024, I reunited with a ‘thriving solo Ollie’ to direct, film and edit his ‘Maypole Days’ music video – that has gone on to be replayed and promoted every year at the famous maypole celebrations in Wellow, Nottinghamshire.
