From Amazon Listing to B&Q: Why Product Video Production is a game changer for brands in the East Midlands

Standing Out in a Crowded Market

I’ll be honest: It’s tough out there without video.

Most brands struggle to explain their value proposition in under 30 seconds. Without a clear pro video, you’ve just listed another scrollable item on the internet.
When I sat down to discuss the Rock Glue Pro project, the goal was clear: they hired me to create a video that acted as a pitch, a demo, a tutorial and a social ad all in one.

Finding a Freelance Videographer in the East Midlands

Hiring a local creator isn’t just for small businesses. I’ve worked for big brands like Nottingham Forest FC, Bic, The NHS, Nottingham Trent University and even nationwide charities like Breast Cancer UK. For this shoot for Flow, we didn’t need a 20 person crew or a London agency price tag. We needed a “Stereotype Killer” approach to product videography and a great location to demonstrate the glue.

Successful video filming…
  • I worked together with the Flow team to create the script. They knew the product, I had the vision!
  • We showed exactly why the user needed the product within the first 3 seconds. Bins dragging over gravel, dogs messing up the driveway..
If it’s a useful product like Rock Glue Pro you must show why!
  • Using mid shots of the presenter holding the glue when speaking. It sounds so obvious but it’s essential your presenter interacts with the product if we shoot this style. It gives the potential customer an idea of the scale of each product size and also boosts its legitimacy. Show it’s real, show it works and make it all look coherent!
  • Multipurpose: We shot with social media, wholesale pitches, and website headliners in mind. The footage can be reused for all sorts also!
I shot this video with a Lumix S5II which films a near square 10 bit frame. This means it’s really easy for me to turn any landscape video into a vertical reel for social media.

The Final Video: How did it do?

This project took Rock Glue Pro from Amazon listing to store shelf regular! You can find it in B&Q and other big chains that offer gardening products and homeware across the UK (lots in the East Midlands!). The video spearheaded each store pitch – and every bottle and cardboard shelving unit (that you can order) features a QR code to this video. This means it’s acted as a sales pitch video, a tutorial video and an online advert – all in one!

Freelancers in Nottingham are just as good (sometimes more fun) as the agencies that charge the big bucks. We aren’t just hitting record, we’re building a narrative and creating professional content that retailers like B&Q actually want to see.

This video was just me, a brilliant presenter I sourced for the project, a local photographer I recommended (on their request) and lots of communication with the Flow team to make sure they were happy with every stage of the filmmaking process.

Why Local Expertise Matters

Whether I’m filming in the Lace Market or on-site at a garden in Nottinghamshire, being a local filmmaker means I understand the East Midlands business landscape.
I’ve seen firsthand how Leicester, Lincoln, Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham-born brands are using video to punch way above their weight class on a national level.
